Occupational Therapy

Any change to physical condition (whether through injury, illness or just getting older) can change function and our ability to be independent with the activities that we need to function on a daily basis.  Not being able to independently perform daily tasks that we once could - for example having a wash, going to the toilet or getting dressed - can be very distressing.

At Principle Health we understand this and our aim is to maximise an individual’s potential to remain independent for as long as possible respecting dignity and the patient’s wishes.

Our Occupational Therapists are all members of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists and have worked extensively with the elderly, as well as those who have been unwell or have incurred an injury that has affected their function.  Our assessments ascertain which areas a patient needs help with and whether a piece of equipment or adjustments to any existing furniture would help.  For example raising the height of a chair so it’s easier to get up - a task many find difficult.  Our Occupational Therapists will also advise if there is a safer way to perform an activity to mitigate against any further harm and enhance existing function.
